WHO announces COVID-19 situations

The World Health Organization announced that 766 440 796 persons contracted novel coronavirus and 6 932 591 died of it in the world as of May 17 (time of central Europe).

According to statistics released by the organization on the basis of those brought together in the regional offices, 342 773 persons newly contracted COVID-19, while 3 574 died of it in the world in a week between May 10 and 16.

As of May 17, the total number of infected cases and deaths in Europe amounted to 276 264 234 and 2 235 289, while those on the west Pacific coast reached 203 414 068 and 411 488 respectively. 

Over 190 million infected cases were registered in American region and 61 143 567 were recorded in the Southeast Asian region.

East Mediterranean countries witnessed 23 369 877 infected cases and 351 195 dead persons and Africa saw 9 530 213 infected cases and 175 365 dead persons.
