A memorial service was held solemnly at the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang on Friday to commemorate the first anniversary of the demise of Hyon Chol Hae who was a prominent political and military activist of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the state and a veteran of the armed forces organ of the DPRK.

The memorial service hall was filled with solemn memory of and sorrow for Hyon Chol Hae, marshal of the Korean People's Army and general adviser to the Ministry of National Defence of the DPRK, who remained most faithful as he followed and supported the leaders with faith, obligation and conscience with the transparent revolutionary outlook on the leader and led the most valuable life in the sacred history of the leaders and who performed immortal feats for the building of a powerful army of a Juche type, the prosperity of the country and the succession and development of the revolutionary cause.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, Jo Yong Won, Choe Ryong Hae and Ri Pyong Chol, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Choe Son Hui, minister of Foreign Affairs, Kang Sun Nam, minister of National Defence, and other senior Party, government and military officials, teaching staff and students of military schools at all levels and revolutionary schools and the bereaved family members.

The participants paid a silent tribute to the memory of Hyon who devoted his all to the victorious advance of the Juche cause shining with the lineage of Paektu with the single-minded loyalty to the Party and the leaders and the spirit of devoted service to the country and people throughout his life.

Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, delivered a memorial address.

He said that the sorrow of having bidden farewell to Hyon Chol Hae, which left an indelible sense of loss in the history of the Korean revolution, still lingers in the hearts of all the people and service personnel of the Korean People's Army and referred to the brilliant life of the martyr who led and encouraged the Korean people as a model of loyalist, steadfast revolutionary and genuine human in the forefront of the revolution advancing toward a new victory, always being together with them in their struggle and life for the past one year.

He said that the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, valuing most the genuine revolutionary traits and humanity of Hyon who had remained true to the leaders, the revolution and his duty all his life, showed the noble example of the harmonious whole of the leader and soldier with the boundless love and obligation.

Reverently remembering the elder loyalist who enjoyed the highest honour and happiness as a soldier and Korean revolutionary in the warm embrace of Kim Jong Un, the speaker stressed that the noble life and distinguished feats of Hyon would be immortal as they are filled with legendary stories about love, trust, loyalty and repayment between the leader and soldiers.

Our cause following a victorious course under the leadership of the great Party requires younger generations to inherit the soul and spirit of the loyalists of preceding generations and all the people and service personnel should leave the trace of worthwhile life in the struggle for accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche as Hyon Chol Hae did, he said.

He paid high tribute to the noble life of Hyon, calling for waging a dynamic struggle for the accomplishment of the cause of building a powerful socialist country of a Korean style led by Kim Jong Un and for the rosy future of the powerful country by carrying forward the batons of ideology, faith, loyalty and patriotism of the revolutionary martyrs.

All the participants renewed their firm will to make strenuous efforts for the cause of the WPK and the steady development of the state and the armed forces of the DPRK by faithfully upholding the idea and leadership of Kim Jong Un, the destiny and future of the Korean people, modelling themselves on the veteran revolutionary who remained faithful to the cause of the leaders to the last.
