The enlarged meeting of the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea set it as the general direction of new year’s work to further expand and develop the all-people struggle to open a new phase in socialist construction so as to provide a decisive guarantee for the fulfilment of the five-year plan.

Last year, the metallurgical industry sector made some achievements in increasing iron and steel output and consolidating its self-supporting foundations.

The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex completed the building of an energy-saving oxygen blast furnace in the main for the expansion of production capacity, and finished the assembly of oxygen plants needed for it.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex also finished the assembly of large oxygen plants to be newly installed.

The Chollima Steel Complex and different other factories and enterprises, mines and relevant units overfulfilled their national economic plans for last year.

The sector is to undertake construction projects for the expansion of production capacity on a full scale this year, too.

The Ministry of Metallurgical Industry is now focusing all efforts on producing iron and steel as planned by further technically refining the Korean-style iron-making method and ensuring timely supply of raw and other materials and fuel and on pushing ahead with the capacity expansion and modernization projects simultaneously with a firm will of self-sufficiency and a long-range view.

Though in difficult conditions, we will surely fulfil our plan for this year by our own efforts as we are led by the great Party and we have workers boundlessly loyal to the Party.
