The Hwasong area in Pyongyang has changed fantastically to add beauty to the capital city. 

Amazing is the overall view of Hwasong Street with a large group of buildings including distinctive skyscrapers and high-rise apartment houses and various kinds of service amenities. What is the miraculous power that unfolded such an innovative entity in a matter of one year? 

Strength of love for the people

The construction of Hwasong Street made all the people keenly feel once again the people-first politics of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

In February last year huge blasts were made signalling the start of the construction of first-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area amid the excitement and joy of many citizens of the capital city.

At that time the construction of 10 000 flats in the Songsin and Songhwa area was near to completion as the first-stage target in the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang. It was unthinkable in common practice that the DPRK, which had been faced with constant sanctions and challenges by hostile forces, started building first-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area with the world health crisis continuing for several years.

But the WPK, which realizes what it promises the people most thoroughly and perfectly in any difficulty, unfolded another major construction project to build a new modern street in the Hwasong area.

There is no love without devotion.

General Secretary Kim Jong Un made tireless efforts for the construction of the street throughout the project. 

He gave instructions related to the project at important meetings including the fourth and fifth plenary meetings of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK and paid close attention to it though he was busy dealing with all affairs of the Party and state.

On his desk there were always documents related to the construction of first-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area. It is said that he examined and completed over 1 630 mock-ups one by one during the period.

Might of great army-people unity

The construction of Hwasong Street demonstrated once again the might of great army-people unity, the irresistible force of the country.

The first-stage project in the Hwasong area, in which hundreds of skyscraping and high-rise apartment houses, public buildings and service facilities with a total floor space of one million and hundreds of thousands of square metres had to be built in an area of over 150 hectares nearly three times as wide as Songhwa Street, was gigantic in scale and faced with many obstacles.

But soldiers and other builders strove hard to complete the construction from the start.

They finished huge amounts of excavation for groundwork in a short time, ended the concrete placing for foundations in a matter of six days and completed the framework construction of dozens of blocks till May.

The project passed the line of 90 percent in September and entered the final stage in the middle of October.

In the period many youths and working people voluntarily worked at the construction sites after fishing their daily work, gave material and moral support to the project and performed patriotic deeds. Many housewives encouraged the builders to push ahead with their tasks all across the sites by providing them with hundreds of pieces of tools and daily necessities.  

Meanwhile, production units in all other parts of the country provided building materials needed for the project and the whole country turned out to carry it out.

Finally, the building of first-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area was completed in April this year.

Confidence in the future

The great change in the Hwasong area is a miracle created by the spiritual strength and creative ability of the people who absolutely and faithfully support plans and determination of the Party out of a sense of patriotism. 

No country has resolved the matter of housing in the world.

And there is no country which builds modern luxury houses at state expense and allots them to ordinary working people free of charge.

In the recent years Changjon, Mirae Scientists, Ryomyong and Songhwa streets and the Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District were built as flourishing streets symbolic of socialism in Pyongyang thanks to the WPK’s architectural idea based on the people-first principle. And April this year witnessed the completion of first-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area, which enables people to visualize their rosy future. Besides, the City of Samjiyon in the northern part of the country turned into a model of modern mountainous city and farmers, including those of the large-scale Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm , received new modern houses gratis and moved into them. This is the reality of the country. 

It is the Korean people’s optimistic view of their future that if 10 000 flats are built in Pyongyang every year, the country will become the first in the world to resolve the housing problem in the capital city, the appearance of the city will get more magnificent and the whole country will change for the better in accordance with the new programme for rural construction. 

Such optimism produces unimaginable strength which is working epoch-making miracles in major construction projects once again.
