National exhibition of plants in DPRK opens
October 8, 2024A national exhibition of plants “Plants in DPRK-2024” opened at the Central Botanical Garden at the foot of Mt Taesong in Pyongyang on September 25.
The exhibition on the theme of “Plant resources in the DPRK” is aimed at protecting and increasing the country’s plant resources and widely spreading and generalizing sci-tech achievements made in the breeding of plant varieties, their cultivation techniques, afforestation, protection of forests and landscaping.
Present at the opening ceremony were a vice-premier of the Cabinet and other officials concerned, scientists, technicians and field officials.
Kim Kyong Jun, minister of Land and Environment Protection, made an opening speech.
He, in his speech, stressed the need to develop the technologies for breeding and cultivating plant varieties of high economic and ornamental value in line with the world developing trend and elevate the level of the country’s civilization a step higher by diffusing and generalizing the achievements made in afforestation, forest protection and landscaping.
After the ceremony, the participants looked round the exhibition hall.
The event drew central- and local-level units concerning the creation, protection and increase of plant resources, including the Central Botanic Garden, educational and scientific research units like
It is held by way of displaying exhibits in the indoor and outdoor exhibition areas.
On show there are such exhibits as rare and indigenous plant species in relevant areas, new good varieties in the forest, landscaping and fruit farming sectors, ground-cover plants of high ornamental value, plant growth stimulants, IT products, processed goods made by using forest resources, botanical specimens, potted plants and flowering and ornamental plants.
During the exhibition, there will be a scientific symposium on the theme of “Study on tourist features of forests in the City of Samjiyon” and a presentation of sci-tech hits made in cultivation and management of plants.
