A new sight has unfolded around the Jangsan River in Pyongyang.

The river, where water courses from several districts join, is some kilometres in length.

However, it is closely connected with the people’s life as it flows through a residential area.

Many people stroll along the promenade along the river and the elderly take light exercises there in the morning and evening.

The scenery around the river has recently changed completely.

The promenade, chairs, street lamps and all other things have been renovated to meet the modern aesthetic sense, with a large LED screen installed on either side of the river so that singing keeps resounding there. Weeping willows with their long thin branches hanging down have been decorated with graceful illuminations.

A fountain with decorative illuminations shining brightly in various colours and floating flower-shaped insecticidal lamps decorated with illuminations in the middle of the river make the scenery conspicuous.

A boating ground has come into being there, and boats different in shape give people pleasure. Pedal boats attract adults, while small boats driven by paddle wheels are liked by children.

On the boating ground adults are quite glad like children, and children enjoy themselves in the safe section without knowing the passage of time.

Around the boating ground there are public catering facilities where people can take roast meat and soft drinks for people’s convenience.

Also distinctive is the sight of angling fans sitting here and there landing fishes, making passers-by stop and share delight with them.

In the evening, the river area bright with decorative illuminations is further crowded with people back from a day’s work.

They boat by families or spend a good time relishing roast meat on skewers while drinking Taedonggang Beer and young couples take photos of their beloved children engrossed in playing. They all have smiles on their faces, adding beauty to the scenery of the area.
