A programme has been undertaken to improve the qualifications of medical workers as required by the revolution in public health in the new era. 

National demonstration lectures were given for educators at the institutions of medical education.

The Ministry of Public Health held the demonstration lectures for educational workers of the universities and colleges of medical sciences throughout the country as part of the programme to discuss the new educational programme and improve the quality of medical education.

Demonstration lectures were given by excellent lecturers of Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences.

They proved to be effective as they were based on their high theoretical qualifications and rich teaching experience.

Participants voiced their impression that they were excellent lectures which enabled them to have direct experience of the advantages of excellent teaching methods and knowledge transferring techniques and that they felt as if they finished a university course.

After the demonstration lectures were over, they had a debate on the problems arising in the development of medical education while sharing experience and teaching methods between educational institutions.

Measures have been taken to strengthen the re-education system for improving the professional qualifications of health workers on the job.

In particular, passing-on-technique sessions have been intensified for medical workers in 20 county (district) hospitals to be newly built this year.

According to information available, a total of over 20 000 theoretical lectures and a hundred thousand practical trainings were given for more than 480 medical workers in the county (district) hospitals on the majors, adjacent disciplines and basic subjects in 11 central-level hospitals including the Pyongyang General Hospital, the Kim Man Yu Hospital and the Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences Hospital and three newly-built city and county hospitals.

The Pyongyang General Hospital held a passing-on-technique session by focusing on making technical trainees be well versed in modern medical facilities and handle them skilfully, while the Kim Man Yu Hospital intensified practical education for improving clinical competence according to the characters of specialized departments.

The Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences Hospital, the Okryu Children’s Hospital and other hospitals also transferred high medical skills and technologies as they took measures to solve the problems arising in practice.

The health workers who took part in the passing-on-technique sessions worked hard to acquire high professional qualifications to fully perform their jobs at the new modern hospitals.

The medical workers of the Sonchon County Hospital and the Taean District Hospital in Nampho Municipality accumulated rich experience on an advanced treatment method which could not be employed at the level of county (district) hospitals and those of the Pongsan and Thongchon county hospitals raised their technical qualifications by correctly grasping their tasks and steadily practising skills.

Local health workers put in efforts to be well versed in the intelligent medical service system to be introduced into new hospitals while building their managing and deciphering ability as they directly use modern facilities at the Kangdong and Ryonggang county hospitals and Kusong City Hospital.
