Even now at the end of October, all the teachers, researchers and students of Kim Il Sung University still recollect the days when they celebrated the 80th founding anniversary (October 1) of the university with splendour.

On September 30 and October 1, respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un visited the university to congratulate its teachers, researchers and students, showing great love for them.

He made a congratulatory speech “Respects to the Glorious 80-Year History of Kim Il Sung University”, saw a performance given in commemoration of its 80th founding anniversary and had a photo taken with its teachers and researchers.

Every country has its own universities, and the DPRK has several universities. But the mission Kim Il Sung University assumes for the country and people is unusual indeed.

The university was established as the one of the people on October 1 1946, nearly two years before the founding of the DPRK.

After achieving the historic cause of national liberation by waging a protracted and bloody anti-Japanese war, General Kim Il Sung held the firm belief that a strong, independent and sovereign state should be built in order for the Korean people not to suffer the historical disgrace of becoming the slaves of aggressors again and that to this end, talents who would become the backbone of the state should be trained. With the noble ambition, he personally initiated the construction of a university. True to that, the Korean people unhesitatingly donated polished rice, which they gathered from their own land for the first time after liberation, for the construction of the university.

It is the university of the people in which their sons and daughters can learn freely and which contributes to promoting the people's wellbeing, developing the national culture to shine in the world and building their country. Herein lies the characteristic of the university.

For 80 years since then the university has always remained faithful to its mission and exalted its honour as the highest institution of Juche-oriented science and education and a meritorious and famous university by achieving remarkable successes in education and scientific research and by training admirable talents for the country and the people.

The General Secretary said in his congratulatory speech that today when, surpassing the era of harbouring a great ambition, dreams and desires, we should usher in an era of putting them into practice and reality, the university should produce such good revolutionary personnel, namely, first-rate personnel equipped with an ennobling spirit and morality, high scientific and theoretical qualifications and creative abilities, and wisely clarified the tasks and ways to this end. 

His intention is that as in the country no other university could be on a par with this university in terms of importance of mission as each of its affairs has a direct bearing on the dignity and future of the country, it should take the lead in the struggle to build a powerful and prosperous country.

Saying that the university should rise up just like it did to lay the foundations for education and scientific research in its initial days to make another event worth mentioning as its re-founding, and lay a solid strategic line for the future, the General Secretary expressed great trust in the university again, pointing to the need for it to become the leading, driving force for building an educational power, a sci-tech power and a talent power, the three-point strategic task the WPK put forward for the development of Korean socialism.

Therefore, all the teachers, researchers and students of the university have turned out to make new innovations and attain higher goals, keeping in mind the immortal guidelines given by the General Secretary.

They are now devoting their every minute and second to research and innovation with a determination to fulfil their duty in carrying out the educational revolution in the new century, improving the sci-tech capabilities of the state and preparing themselves to become proud revolutionary personnel of the motherland.
