There are two neighbouring hospitals in a fence in the Munsu area, called a hospital village of Pyongyang.

They are the Ryugyong Dental Hospital and Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital.

Before they were newly built, there were hospitals specializing in dental and ophthalmic treatment in the capital city.

But respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un, who spares nothing for the promotion of people’s health, proposed building a comprehensive dental hospital and modern ophthalmic hospital equipped with the latest medical equipment in the Munsu area, chose the sites for them and guided the whole course of their construction in detail from start to finish.

He visited the construction site of the dental hospital nearing completion again after the field guidance in the midsummer heat and on the rainy day, pointed out the problems arising in finishing the construction and running the hospital and named it.

The hospital was completed several months after the groundbreaking and opened in October 2013 on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Later, the respected General Secretary visited the hospital and said that as he saw many people come to the hospital, he came to know that it conducted vigorous activities for medical service. And he added that the country built the Ryugyong Dental Hospital not because it intended to introduce and propagandize that it has a world-level dental hospital, but to ensure the people would enjoy the benefits of socialism in good health.

The Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital was built beside the Ryugyong Dental Hospital and opened in October 2016 to mark the 71st founding anniversary of the WPK.

The respected General Secretary guided the designs of the hospital on several occasions so that the people could recognize it as a general ophthalmic hospital at a glance. And when he gave field guidance at the hospital before its opening, he said with pleasure that another of his desires for the people was fulfilled.

The two hospitals thus built have so far achieved great successes in their medical service activities.

Medical workers of them have actively developed and introduced advanced treatment methods and boldly challenged the incurable diseases.

And they have undertaken a series of outreach programmes for major industrial establishments and other units across the country.

Now the two neighbouring hospitals on the banks of the picturesque Taedong River have become familiar to the local people.
