A meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 22 in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of Worker-Peasant Red Army of China.

President Xi Jinping attended the meeting with leading officials of the Communist Party of China and the state and representatives from all walks of life. 

As the opening of the meeting was declared, all the participants sang in chorus the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China and then paid a silent tribute to the memory of those who heroically died a martyr’s death in the course of the Long March and the revolutionary struggle across the country. 

President Xi made an important speech.

He referred to the fact that the CPC made great long marches and emerged victorious in each historical period of the revolution and construction while rallying and leading the people in the past 90 years after the victorious Long March.

Saying that the future can be shaped when history is remembered, he called on the whole party, the entire army and the people of all ethnic groups of the whole country to positively display the great spirit of Long March by rallying more closely around the party central committee, and strive to continuously advance the cause pioneered by the revolutionary forerunners and create a brilliant history on the new long march.  

Thanks to the joint efforts of the whole party, the entire army and the people of all ethnic groups of the whole country, China attained the first century goal of building a comprehensively well-off society and is now advancing towards the second century goal to build a modern and powerful socialist country on the new journey, he said.

Describing the new journey as an expedition filled with glory and dreams and a new long march of the party and the people, he emphasized the need to create a new historic cause by holding fast to the ideal, faith and fundamental aim of the party, implementing the idea on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, bearing in mind the original intention and mission and firmly relying on the people.

The meeting ended with the playing of the song “Internationale”.
