UN is for all
October 24, 2026October 24 is the Day of the United Nations.
The largest governmental international organization in the world, the UN carries out the mission to defend global peace and security, promote friendly relations between countries and facilitate international cooperation in various fields. It also works with sovereign equality, peaceful settlement of disputes and noninterference in other’s internal affairs as the main principles of its activities.
The international community has great expectations for and interest in the organization for the importance of its position, mission and role.
Yet wars and conflicts continue throughout the world and it is not free from political interventions, economic sanction and military threats and blackmail against sovereign states until today though over 80 years have passed since its establishment.
By abusing their privileged position in the UN, the US and some other countries threaten global peace and security, flagrantly violating the principles of respect for sovereignty and noninterference in other's internal affairs stipulated in the UN Charter and international law.
In the 1950s the US started the Korean war and committed large aggression forces to the Korean front under the signboard of the UN in a bid to cover up its aggressive moves. After the war it continued to stage war games against the DPRK oblivious of the lesson from the ignominious defeat in the war, shipping large quantities of nuclear strike means and military hardware into the area of the Korean peninsula. The US, which is developing the US-Japan-ROK combined military system targeting the DPRK into a more offensive and aggressive military bloc involving nuclear elements, is steadily developing and mastering the practical ability of the nuclear war scenarios against the DPRK through various forms of war rehearsals and arms buildup with a strong provocative nature, while systematically revising and updating them in collusion with its allies.
In recent years no resolutions reflecting the unanimous demands of the international community desiring peace and security in the Middle East have been adopted in the UN as the US arbitrarily exercised its veto.
It shows vividly that the UN fails to fulfil its mission and responsibility.
At present, voices demanding the UN reform are rising in the international arena. It is the unanimous desire of the international community that the UN should not be reformed centring on specific countries, but be truly democratized to ensure the will and interests of all its member states are represented evenly and equally and be built into the one for all which is faithful to the objectives and principle of its Charter and in which impartiality and objectivity are fully guaranteed.
The ever-changing present times urgently demand that the UN enhance its role to handle the challenges and crises facing mankind in conformity with the common interests of mankind.
Only when the arbitrary, high-handed, biased and double-dealing practices are prohibited in all its activities and the principles of sovereign equality, noninterference in internal affairs of others, impartiality and objectivity are strictly adhered to, can the UN revive its image as an organization fully possessed of qualifications and capacity to fulfil the objectives of its Charter.
It is important for the UN to gain trust of the international community and make a positive contribution to promoting global peace and security by faithfully fulfilling the mission and duty it has assumed for the history and times.
