Chinese FM spokesman urges Japan to face history and reflect on crimes
October 21, 2026A spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry at a press conference on October 15 answered a reporter’s question concerning the first release of the minutes of internal meetings of the Yasukuni Shrine by Japanese media.
According to the minutes, the Japanese authorities had already agreed with the Yasukuni Shrine to make offerings to class-A war criminals in the 1960s, but they did not disclose it externally, and it was not until 1979 that the fact was known to the outside.
In this regard, the Chinese spokesman said that the relevant record proved once again that Japan was well aware that it was dishonourable to make offerings to class-A war criminals at that time and that it had kept it secret because of its compunction.
Since the evidence is clear for the aggressive crimes committed by the Japanese militarists, the Japanese chief executive should face up to the history and reflect on their crimes, he noted.
