When the dark sets in, young people flood into the fifth-stage construction site in the Hwasong area.

They are volunteers at different ages and in different jobs. But they come here with one intention to support the project to fulfil the long-cherished desire of the Workers’ Party of Korea with their passion and sincere efforts.

Writing their names on the list of the proud ranks, called the “youth shock brigade for assistance at night”, they devote their efforts unsparingly with the builders, mirroring them in the word “patriotism”.

“Many young people have joined the activity of the youth shock brigade for assistance at night so far since the start of the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang. They total tens of thousands,” said Pak Chol Jun, section chief of the Pyongyang municipal house construction headquarters.

These volunteers are now carrying out a series of tasks including site clearing.

It is easier said than done to make their way to the construction site after a day’s work. But as they regard it as the most wonderful and proudest of all to have a treasured memory of having devoted their youthful vigour to the capital city construction and to proudly write the feats in the construction of Pyongyang on the life history in their youth, many young people come to the construction site every day.  

The youth shock brigade members also extend sincere aids unsparingly, while working with the builders.

They send a large quantity of construction tools or supplies they prepared with sincerity with an intention to make a contribution to accelerating the construction project even a little.  

Builders say in unison that the construction site gets more enlivened in the evening and the construction project makes headway thanks to the sincere efforts of the youth shock brigade members.
