Every country should have strength to exist and develop.

The strength may be either the powerful military muscle or the power of developed economy.

But the might of the people united on the strength of patriotism surpasses them.

It is not easy to unite all the people and though every country wants the unity, they fail to achieve it.

The history of the DPRK can also be claimed to be a course of rallying all the people under the banner of patriotism. 

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was founded on the strength of patriotism and unity of all the people. 

After Korea’s liberation, President Kim Il Sung called on all the people to contribute positively to the work of building a new Korea, let those with strength give their strength; let those with knowledge give their knowledge; and let those with money give their money. In response to his patriotic appeal, the Korean people turned out in the struggle for nation building, thereby successfully carrying out the tasks of the democratic revolution and founding a new democratic Korea which they had desired for centuries.

The DPRK people led a genuine life working and learning to their heart’s content as masters of political power, factories and land. They displayed their matchless bravery and self-sacrificing spirit in the fierce Fatherland Liberation War, which can be said to be a showdown between a rifle and an atomic bomb, to defend their motherland which could never be lost again, and won the great victory in the war which would specially be etched in the world history of war. And in the period of postwar reconstruction they showed off the mettle of Koreans again to build on the debris of the war a powerful country, independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence.

The latter half of the 1990s was an unforgettably hard time for the Koreans. 

In those years when the hostile forces went to extremes in their anti-socialist moves, Chairman Kim Jong Il always stood in the van of the arduous long journey of patriotism with his ardent love for and devotion to the country and people, while all the people of the DPRK, true to his noble intention, devoted their pure conscience to defending socialism and laying the eternal solid foundation for the building of a prosperous and powerful country.  

In the past 10-odd years they engraved more deeply in their minds the truth that a genuinely powerful country is the one in which all the people are united on the strength of patriotism. 

The DPRK has always faced with the vicious moves of the hostile forces, ordeals and other challenges in the whole course of its development, but those that confronted it in the past 10-odd years were unprecedentedly tough.  

But the patriotic enthusiasm and inexhaustible creative power of the people rallying closely around respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un, who administers the people-first politics, endowed with the spirit of selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people, overcame all trials and difficulties and brought about countless miracles.

The great historic cause of perfecting the country’s nuclear capability was accomplished and its military muscle was further strengthened in a short period and a new era of overall national rejuvenation was ushered in.

The model creations of the efflorescence of socialist civilization have sprung up continuously, bringing about a sea change everywhere, and dreams and ideals of the people have been translated into reality through the dynamic implementation of the regional development policy in the new era, the rural revolution programme, the educational revolution and the public health revolution.

That is why the Korean people throw in their lot with their motherland, live with patriotism and keep making new innovations and unite more firmly on the strength of patriotism.

This is a national trait of the DPRK and its greatest strength.
