Salt production goes up

October 7, 2026

The salt industry set a goal to fulfill its yearly plan for salt production based on underground ultra-saline water ahead of schedule and works hard to attain it.

Salt produced with underground ultra-saline water, which is higher in salinity than seawater, contains less bittern and therefore has no bitter taste. It is of high utility value as it has high potassium and iodine contents and a low heavy metal content.

The Salt Industry Bureau and relevant units have established a production control system to flexibly respond to objective conditions including weather conditions and continue to put great efforts into strengthening the production bases including the introduction of rational production methods and the increasing of the capacity of machines and equipment.

The Kwisong Salt Works is producing a large amount of salt every day while operating equipment at full capacity and controlling the crystallization ponds in a scientific and technological way.

The Namyang Salt Works has made efforts to solve the technical problems for putting salt production on a more scientific basis and increasing the salinity. Thus it fully carries out daily and every ten days’ production plans.

The Yonbaek Salt Works has actively introduced rational working methods through a dynamic mass technical innovation movement with the main emphasis put on improving the quality of salt.

The Kumsong Salt Works has put efforts into repairing salt fields and raising the operation rate of pumping facilities according to the expected weather conditions, thereby steadily increasing salt production.
