Russian President Vladimir Putin met with leaders of major political parties of the country that became parliamentary parties according to the results of the recent State Duma election.

At the meeting he said that all parliamentary parties not only confirmed their positions but also contributed to consolidating the political system, state power and social stability of the country, adding that they should live up to the support and trust of the people through the work at local power organs and the parliament in the future.

He said that citizens actively took part in the election and a high turnout was reported, making it impossible to dispute the legitimacy of the election. All attempts to disrupt the election campaign by mobilizing terrorists and foreign special agencies and interfere in the internal affairs of Russia were completely frustrated and the Russians defended their independent right of deciding their future by themselves, he stressed.
