Emulation drive on Wihwa Island

October 3, 2026

A socialist emulation drive is energetically going on in the area of Wihwa Island towards achieving collective innovations and greater successes by helping and leading one another forward.

A production competition is heating up among several farms under the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm.

The manager of the Soho Farm said that all employees are learning hard to produce more vegetables in the greenhouses in their charge, adding that the intensive scientific farming drive helped increase the vegetable output in the last few months.

Last July, the farms, workteams, sub-workteams and employees that won the first place in the review of the socialist emulation drive for the first half of the year were highly appreciated.

Kil Chong Han, a farmer of the Hadan Farm who is nearing sixty, learned science and technologies with the assistance of researchers and harvested over 10 tons of cucumbers in the greenhouse in his charge during the emulation period.

Yun Ok Gum of the Sangdan Farm, who reaped more than 10 tons of tomatoes by managing two greenhouses alone, has recently taken charge of a cucumber greenhouse, saying a master of the farm should be able to grow any vegetable.

With an enterprising spirit, she assumed a new task of helping the management of twelve greenhouses of her workteam.

The islanders are burning with a zeal to spruce up the island area which turned into a beautiful place thanks to the great benevolence of the state.

Hundreds of hectares of lawn have been newly created and more than 100 000 trees are growing on the island, adding beauty to the ecological environment of the farm area.

Amid the growing trend of furnishing houses neatly, many households have become model families of socialist cultured way of life in the past one year alone.

As the mounting enthusiasm for emulation is greatly changing the working manner and lifestyle of the residents, a new life, a new civilization, is being created on Wihwa Island.
