There is an epic "A Country without Orphans" among many materials kept at the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum.

It was written by Yun Il Hui, a war veteran, in early 1990 and sent to the museum by his family on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the war.

The epic tells an impressive story etched in the history of the great Fatherland Liberation War.

In June 1952, when the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25 1950-July 27 1953) was at its height, a party of the Korean People’s Army soldiers led by Yun was given an unusual mission.

Supreme Commander Kim Il Sung issued an order to safely bring war orphans to the rear.

As he looked round the military trucks belonging to his party just before setting out for the mission, Yun saw large cardboard boxes in them.

They contained confectionery sent by the Supreme Headquarters to feed the orphans during the evacuation.

In the course of executing their mission, Yun’s party met many kind people, including the chairman of the people’s committee and villagers of a ri who came to see them with the parched-rice flour and honeyed water they had prepared for the orphans going to the rear, the anti-air observation post members who informed them of the movements of the enemy planes so that the trucks carrying the children could run safely and the people in the rear who waved their hands to give a warm send-off while restoring the bridges and roads destroyed by the enemies’ naval and aerial bombardments.

They all said they had received the order of the Supreme Headquarters to ensure the safe passage and rest of the war orphans.

Thanks to the support of such kind people, the fleet of trucks carrying the orphans reached their destination safely.

The government provided the war orphans with a secure home in a scenic, sunny and cosy valley and sent them school and kindergarten teachers and doctors for their education, edification and health.

One day when Yun and his men were on their way for another round of evacuation mission after successfully completing the first one, they received an urgent message asking for waiting for well over a hundred children sent from Height 1211.

They immediately decided to go near to the front to evacuate the children, and made their way through the showers of bullets and shells.

The enemy planes rained down bombs wherever the trucks went, but the KPA anti-aircraft artillerymen and aircraft-hunting team members ensured the security of the children at the risk of their lives.

By overcoming severe trials one by one that way, Yun’s party accomplished the evacuation mission.

War inevitably produces orphans.

But under the great loving care of President Kim Il Sung, the war orphans of the DPRK could grow up brightly, free from the sorrow of parentless children, to be the future of the country.

War veteran Yun Il Hui wrote the epic "A Country without Orphans", inspired by this historical fact.

The great self-sacrificing love for younger generations that spares nothing for them has been carried forward and got warmer along with the history of the DPRK, and all the children in the country grow up healthily, being regarded as kings of the country.
