Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at a press conference on September 20 that all obstructive moves of the West to derail the State Duma election were exposed and foiled.

He said that external factors affected the recent election more than ever before and that there were direct attempts to intervene in the process of the election to describe it as “undemocratic”.

Censuring the European Union and Western countries for putting out statements to the effect that the election is not up to the European “standards of democracy” before the beginning of the vote and taking issue with the expression of opinions by the Russians in the Baltic States, he said that the election result in Russia will give a clear answer to the West which was hell-bent on blocking the vote.

He affirmed that the result of the State Duma election will prove the loyalty of Russian people to Russia’s domestic and foreign policy line determined by President Vladimir Putin at the outset.
