DPRK Championships open
September 25, 2026The DPRK Championships opened with due ceremony at the Basketball Gymnasium on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang on September 22.
The championships will bring together sports clubs and teams and sports education units in the capital city and local areas including the April 25 Sports Team, the Amnokgang Sports Club, the Pyongyang Sports Club, the Ryongaksan Taekwon-Do Team, the Chongchongang Sports Club, the Sports Club under the Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport and Korea University of Physical Education. They will compete in more than 550 categories of 30-odd events such as football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, track-and-field, gymnastics, boxing, weightlifting and Taekwon-Do.
Present at the opening ceremony were officials of the sports field, sportspersons and Pyongyang citizens.
A march-past of the players was followed by macthes of the men's teqball doubles and mixed teqball doubles.
The events of the DPRK Championships will be held in Pyongyang Municipality and Phyongsong and Sariwon cities.
