Nearly 70 years have passed since the establishment of the socialist system on this land where age-old backwardness and poverty had prevailed.

In the period, the Korean people have accepted socialism as a requirement for their living rather than an ideal or political mode in the course of experiencing a dramatic change in their destiny and braving all sorts of difficulties.

It is because socialism of theirs provided them with genuine human dignity and rights.

One century ago Korea was under the Japanese imperialists’ occupation and the Korean people had to suffer all manner of humiliation and insults, deprived of even their language and names.

In a new society, in which the people are held in high esteem as heaven, the Korean people became the masters of the country.

Merited Smelter Yu Hyon Gu, who had lived in Japan before returning to the socialist motherland, became a deputy to the Supreme People’s Assembly and Labour Hero while working as the crew leader of a furnace at the Chollima Steel Complex. He wrote in his note: 

“My father had gone to Japan in search of a way to make a living. While being forced into slavery at a construction site, he was crushed to death under a collapsing tunnel. In bitter tears, my mother had to make painstaking efforts to support us five children.

“It was the socialist motherland which provided me with all conditions for living as a genuine human being. So I had nothing more to want. Still the country repeatedly provided me with glory and happiness beyond my imagination. I can’t find the right words to express my gratitude to the country.”

Ordinary working people are elected as deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly to discuss the state affairs and all people add glory to their political integrity as dignified masters of state administration and enjoy all rights as independent beings, including the rights to work and rest and to receive education and medical service.

An agricultural worker in Hoeryong City, who participated in the celebrations of the Constitution Day of the DPRK and the New Year in the presence of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un in December last year, said that he had never thought that he, an ordinary farmer who worked on fields for decades, would enter the Pyongyang Assembly Hall on behalf of lots of farmers and that he would have a photo taken with the General Secretary.

The farmer said, “I think that it is a really fulfilling and dignified life to live enjoying the trust of the country and respect of society and the collective for one’s diligent work.”

It is natural that the Korean people regard as their life and soul socialism which provides them with dignity, which is the most precious to human beings, and rights.
