Natural monument, fossil of ‘progenitor of frog’
September 16, 2026The fossil of the “progenitor of frog” was excavated in Paektho-dong of the city of Sinuiju, North Phyongan Province, where the fossil of an archaeopteryx had been found.
The fossil which was unearthed in the Jurassic system of the Mesozoic era is 90million years antecedent to the previously unearthed frog fossils.
It shows that frogs evolved rapidly on earth in the Mesozoic era and the northwestern area of the DPRK had been the centre of the rapid evolution of animals and plants from time immemorial.
The fossil is under good protection as a precious treasure helpful in illuminating the evolution process of extinct organisms and the birth of mankind.
