Natural monument, Ryonju Pools
September 13, 2026Ryonju Pools are found in Okryu Valley in the Kuryong Pool section of Outer Kumgang in Mt Kumgang, a celebrated mountain of the DPRK.
They are called thus as two pools formed by the weathering of rocks by glaciers and water flowing through the valley for a long time are contiguous with each other so that they look like a string of two blue beads.
The upper pool is smaller than the lower one.
It is 10m long, 5-6m wide and 6m deep, while the latter is 20m long, 8-9m wide and 9m deep.
There is a 3-4m high waterfall between the two pools.
Ryonju Pools are a scenic spot that adds beauty to the natural scenery in good harmony with the geographical features of the surrounding mountains.
