Russian president refers to development of Far Eastern and Arctic regions
September 8, 2026Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a consultative meeting on the development of the Far Eastern Federal District on September 2.
Today, good positive changes are taking place in the Far Eastern and Arctic regions, he said, adding that the speed of development of the regions has surpassed that of development of Russia as a whole in a series of major indexes.
Russia should not only defend the wide space of the Far East and the Arctic but also develop and strengthen it so as to make it the means of the reliable and long-term development of the state, he noted, mentioning that a strategy for the development of the Far Eastern Federal District by 2036 has been worked out and a strategy for the development of the Arctic region and ways for implementing it have been discussed.
Federal power organs, regional and local autonomous districts, business circles and public organizations should jointly fulfil the tasks set in the strategy, actively involve the regional residents in the efforts and consider their opinions, he stressed.
