Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov posted an article on an Internet website on August 31 to criticize the NATO for making aggressive military moves in the North Pole.

NATO does not conceal its intention to reduce the Arctic to a new front for arresting the development of Russia and its supporting forces, he said, noting that NATO’s military moves, which are being intensified in the North Pole, are increasing a danger of causing an unexpected incident which may lead to catastrophic consequences.

In the places adjoining Russia’s northern border, large-scale military drills of aggressive character are being conducted by the countries outside the region and new components are being added to NATO’s command staff structure, he said, asserting that this poses a direct threat to Russia’s security.

Russia will appropriately respond to any hostile acts and defend its interests by using every means, he stressed.
