Japan condemned for playing up ‘China threat’
August 14, 2026A spokesman for the Chinese Defense Ministry on August 4 answered a question put by a journalist as regards the fact that Japan slandered China in the “Defense White Paper” it officially released, describing the latter’s military movements as the “unprecedentedly greatest strategic challenge”.
Japan’s new “Defense White Paper”, which vastly exaggerated the “surrounding security crisis” and played up the so-called “threat from China”, is full of false contents, he said, adding that this is as good as a thief raising a hue and cry and is aimed at finding an excuse for freeing itself from the military fetters.
While continuing to put up the signboard of “exclusive defense”, the Japanese ruling authorities are stepping up the revision of the three security-related documents, increasing the defense expenditure, developing the long-range attack capability, pushing forward with the weaponizing and turning of outer space into a war theatre, and even trying to make military expansion and war preparations spread deep in their state system, economy, industry and public opinion, he disclosed.
He noted that Japan’s neo-militarism, which developed into a source of trouble, has already become a grave challenge to the postwar international order and a real threat to regional peace and stability.
China strongly demands Japan seriously reflect on its history of aggression, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and cease to advance further along the wrong road of rearmament, he stressed.
