Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to the tasks for the modernization of national defence and the army on July 30.

Since the 18^th Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee has steadfastly maintained and strengthened the absolute leadership of the Party over the army and clearly set the Party’s goal of building a powerful army in the new era, he said.

He stressed the need to firmly consolidate the ideological foundation for the officers and soldiers to advance under the leadership of the Party and thus ensure that the army always obeys the command of the Party.

Fighting efficiency is always the basic orientation and criteria for inspection in pushing forward with the modernization of national defence and the army at a high qualitative level, he said, calling for properly organizing inspection and evaluation in a real-war format and substantially pressing on with training and combat preparations to effectively defend the sovereignty, security and development interests of the state.
