The Law on Sex Equality was promulgated in the DPRK on July 30 80 years ago. 

Afterwards the whole country kept resounding with songs about women.

The Korean women had long had to put up with sorrow and sufferings due to the feudal fetters and the Japanese imperialists’ military occupation.

Only after the liberation of Korea could they enjoy their genuine dignity and rights.

Thanks to the promulgation of the Law on Sex Equality, which put an end to the tragic history of contempt for women, the Korean women could learn and work to their heart’s content with equal rights with men. The songs created at that time just reflect their joy through its words and melody. 

Along with the songs the Korean women were reborn as the masters of a new Korea pushing one of the two wheels of the revolutionary chariot, as well as new human beings with beautiful dreams and ideals under the care of President Kim Il Sung, liberator of Korea, and under the care of the state.

That’s why the Korean women bravely fought to defend the precious country, which enabled them to lead a dignified life, during the Fatherland Liberation War.

During the grim war there were created such wartime songs as “Nobody Knows”, “At the Spring Site” and “My Dear Is a Hero Now” showing the noble and beautiful spiritual world of the Korean women fighting to win the war on the strength of their love for the country.

Singing the songs, whose lilting and cheerful melodies reflect the warm love and affection of women and their optimism about their future, the women contributed to bringing about a great victory in the war.

Other paeans to women, including “Love Your Wife” reflecting the social respect for women, resounded across the country even in the 1990s, when the country was suffering severe hardship, like in the periods of postwar reconstruction and socialist construction when miracles and innovations were made at all worksites.

Such songs about women as “Women Are Flowers”, “The Girl on a Steed” and “My Dear Wife” impressively represent the inexhaustible strength and beautiful spiritual world of women who are injecting vitality into the advance of society.

With paeans to women resounding in the proud annals of the revolution, the Korean women became stronger and more beautiful.

The life and dignity of the women will shine forever under the care of the state which highly appreciates the efforts and devotion of the women who work hard in their workplaces while striving for the happiness of their families.
