Chinese FM warns Japan against attempts to remilitarize itself and possess nukes
July 26, 2026A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry warned Japan against attempting to remilitarize itself and possess nuclear weapons at a press conference on July 20.
Answering a question raised by a journalist as regards the fact that after the emergence of the Takaichi government in Japan, 82 local assemblies including those of Hiroshima and Nagasaki submitted to the government and the Diet written opinions requesting them to maintain the “three non-nuclear principles”, the spokesperson said it shows that the Japanese ruling authorities’ acceleration of remilitarization against the pacifist constitution cannot win public favour.
The Japanese right-wing forces' ambition to revive militarism, destroy the "three non-nuclear principles" and possess nuclear weapons has been fully revealed after Takaichi took office and they are rushing along the wrong road, the spokesperson noted.
If the Japanese ruling authorities deploy nuclear weapons in Japan while continuing to misjudge the situation as regards the nuclear issue and clinging to the revision of the "three non-nuclear principles", it will constitute not only a challenge to the international order but also defiance to the universal public sentiment in Japan and, in the long run, they will have to pay dearly for that, the spokesperson stressed.
