Russian presidential press secretary rejects argument about ‘threat from Russia’

July 14, 2026

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitri Peskov rejected NATO’s argument about “threat from Russia” at a press conference on July 9.

Noting that NATO’s declaration of Russia as a threat was an act of aggression, he said that this demands Russia become stronger, firmly believe in itself and invariably pursue its policy.

The fact that they announced someone as an enemy itself constitutes an act of aggression, he said, adding that since NATO’s aggressive moves continue, it arises as a primary task to develop the country technologically and economically and ensure and defend the national interests.

The arch-enemy of NATO, which was originally set up as a tool for confrontation, was the Soviet Union and then became the Russian Federation, the successor, he said, adding Russia would take all necessary measures to defend the country.
