Chinese president calls for properly conducting flood prevention and relief
July 13, 2026Chinese President Xi Jinping recently issued an important directive on properly conducting flood prevention and relief efforts.
He noted that dams of reservoirs burst and landslides occurred as a result of heavy rain and strong wind in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Hubei and Gansu provinces and other places, causing many casualties and economic losses.
He urged that all efforts should be directed into organizing emergency measures, rescue operations and treatment of the wounded and stabilizing the life of people so as to minimize the losses of people and prevent secondary damage.
Different regions and relevant sectors should thoroughly overcome the slack psychology and the attitude of leaving things to chance, fulfil their responsibilities to the disaster prevention and relief efforts and intensify the search and elimination of risk elements like rivers and lakes, dangerous reservoirs and areas prone to geological disasters, he said.
He also stressed the need to guarantee the safety of the people’s lives and property by properly conducting surveillance, early warning and preparations for emergency rescue and all other work for disaster prevention and relief.
