Chinese permanent rep to UN calls for permanent ceasefire in Gaza
July 7, 2026The Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations called for achieving a permanent and genuine ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as he addressed a recent open meeting of the UN Security Council on the Palestine-Israel issue.
The agreement on ceasefire still fails to bring true peace to Gaza and the humanitarian crisis is grave, he said, adding that materials necessary for survival are in short supply, hygienic conditions are terrible and more than two million residents are living in poverty in the ruins.
The Chinese side strongly demands that Israel immediately stop all activities related to settlement, restrain settlers from acting violently and guarantee serious penalties on those responsible for assaults, he said.
The two states solution can be neither denied nor replaced by anything as it is the only possible way for the settlement of the Palestinian issue, he said, adding that the international community should reject any attempt to change the Palestinian population and territorial structure and oppose any unilateral act which destroys the basis of the two states solution.
