Efforts are being made to narrow the gap between urban and rural areas in the educational level.

The general education sector set a goal of improving the educational level of rural schools while putting main focus on improving the quality of basic education, and has directed efforts to strengthening the ranks of teachers and raising the level of basic knowledge of students.

It selects bright students from senior classes of rural schools to get education at city and county seats’ senior middle schools high in educational level and sends them to teacher training colleges preferentially.

According to an official of the Ministry of Education, thousands of graduates of rural schools across the country have entered teacher training colleges, which will further strengthen the ranks of teachers of rural schools in the future.

Excellent graduates from universities of education and teacher training colleges across the country have actively volunteered to work at rural schools.

Many graduates from teacher training colleges across the country, including those from universities of education and similar colleges in North Phyongan and South Hwanghae provinces, have begun to work at rural schools.

Meanwhile, positive efforts are being made to raise the qualifications of teachers of rural schools by enrolling them at the online education systems of teacher training colleges, to dispatch excellent teachers of urban schools to improve the abilities of rural school teachers and to disseminate and transfer advanced teaching resources of Pyongyang and urban areas.

The provincial teacher training schools and city and county teachers in-service training centres dispatch instructors to rural schools to help their teachers improve their educational qualifications. The instructors provide guidance over the preparation of teaching plans, making of multimedia for education and extracurricular teaching.

In North Phyongan Province, the Sinuiju City Teachers In-service Training Centre and schools in the city produced and sent more than 1 200 pieces of multimedia to rural schools in the first quarter of the year alone.

Other provinces are pushing ahead with construction projects to spruce up rural schools.
