Stride forward in improvement of educational structure, contents and methods

In the DPRK successes have been made in the work to modify the educational structure of the country to give advanced education, and to improve the teaching contents and methods more rationally.

The education sector pushed ahead with the work to put the country’s education on an advanced level with the stress on the reorganization of the educational structure.

A new teaching management system was introduced and applied at Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, the University of Sciences and Pyongyang University of Architecture, and their experience widely introduced into other universities, including teacher training institutions.

And subjects of cutting-edge and cross-disciplinary science sectors were newly established at major universities.

At the same time relevant measures were taken, including that to improve the structures of the curriculums to train excellent scientific and technical talents including those in the fields of IT, chemistry, material engineering and biotechnology.

The sector of general education conducted the work to implement the elective educational courses according to the economic and geographical features of relevant regions and the aptitudes and personality of students.

Excellent teachers were mobilized to promote the planning of the second universal 12-year compulsory education programme and the writing and publication of textbooks. And efforts were made to select different cities and counties representing the industrial city, flat area and mountainous area and introduce the new education programme there on trial for a year.

On this basis, the new education programme has been carried out at all schools since the new school year this year.

Education in the country has entered another new stage of development with the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea held last February as an occasion.

Major universities are making preparations for establishing AI-related courses.

Meanwhile, the improvement of the medical education system and the trial application of online education for employees of regional-industry factories at vocational colleges have been pushed forward.

The work to create and introduce the research-oriented teaching and study methods is also going on vigorously.

The sector of general education, too, is redoubling its efforts to build up teaching forces and create and introduce education methods.
