Under the ideal of Olympics

June 23, 2026

June 23 is Olympic Day.

Many countries in the world hoist the Olympic flag, organize sports games and conduct other colourful activities related to the Olympics on the day every year.

The Olympic Games have a very long history.

The International Olympic Committee set June 23, the day when it had decided to hold the modern Olympic Games, as Olympic Day and agreed on staging various events to commemorate it.

The Olympic flag has five intertwined rings, each being blue, yellow, black, green and red, on the white field, meaning five continents of the world.

The Olympic motto is “Faster, Higher, Stronger-Together.”

The Olympic Games include Paralympics and Special Olympics.

The Olympic Games are not regarded simply as a sports field for sportspeople to compete with each other. They have become an international festival for promoting peace and friendship, equality and solidarity.

Today the Olympic Games bring together a large number of players from over 200 countries and regions.

DPRK sportspersons also achieved great successes in the Olympic Games in the past.

Kim Kum Yong, Ri Jong Sik, Kim Mi Rae and Jo Jin Mi won silver medals in the table-tennis mixed doubles and women’s 10-metre platform synchronized diving event of the 33rd Olympic Games held in 2024.

Ri Se Ung, Kim Mi Rae, Pang Chol Mi and Choe Hyo Gyong earned bronze medals in the 60kg category of Greco-Roman wrestling, the women’s 10m platform diving, the women’s boxing 54kg category and the 53kg category of women’s wrestling.

The Olympic movement should make a positive contribution to promoting the development of sports worldwide, boosting friendship and cooperation between countries and building a more peaceful world in conformity with its ideal.
