Vietnamese President To Lam at a meeting on June 11 underlined the importance of external affairs.

He said that external affairs are an important official undertaking which plays a leading role in creating an international environment favourable for the development of the state. 

Noting that strategic independence, etc. form the keynote of Vietnam’s external affairs, he said that the ultimate goal is to defend national interests and put the people at the centre of policy decision.

He stated that external affairs should conform to the prestige and international position of the state and at the same time contribute to building a Vietnam which is independent, self-supporting, peaceful, cooperative and responsible.
