2026 FIFA World Cup begins
June 16, 2026The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off.
It was organized on the largest-ever scale according to the FIFA decision on increasing the number of participating teams from 32 to 48.
During the tournament co-hosted by three countries for the first time in history, a total of 104 matches will be played in 16 cities of Mexico, Canada and the US, the North American countries.
An opening ceremony took place at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City of Mexico on June 11, followed by a match between the team of Mexico, the host country, and that of South Africa.
Similar ceremonies and matches were also held in the other host countries on June 12.
