June 12, 2026

The spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry censured Japan for its moves to distort history at a press conference on June 5.

As to the fact that the Nagasaki city authorities of Japan are scheming to no longer use the expression “massacre” in relation to the Nanjing massacre and to change it into “Nanjing incident in which lots of civilians and prisoners of war were killed”, she stated that the Nanjing massacre cannot be distorted and amended as it is a cruel crime committed by Japanese militarism and there is clear evidence.

The International Military Tribunal for the Far East clearly acknowledged the atrocities Japan committed in Nanjing of China as a “massacre”, not an “incident”, she said, asserting that such act of twisting history should not be tolerated.

China strongly demands that Japan make soul-searching over the war and thoroughly part from militarism, she stressed.
