Indonesian government calls for encouraging use of national currency
June 8, 2026The Indonesian government recently called for expanding the use of the national currency in the import of raw materials in the industrial sector to reduce the dependence on the US dollar.
About 24 percent of raw materials in the industrial sector are imported in the country and the negative impacts on production costs are growing due to the fluctuations in exchange rates.
The government said that the promotion of the use of the national currency would help ease the external pressure on the industrial sector and stressed the need to direct efforts also to manufacturing equipment using domestic raw materials in the future.
