Chinese FM criticizes Japan for attempt to deploy US missile system
May 28, 2026A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry censured Japan for its move to deploy the US’ medium-range missiles at a news conference on May 22.
In connection with the US forces’ attempt to deploy an intermediate-range missile system, to be used in the US-Japan joint exercises, in Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan between June and September, the spokesman asserted that the missile system does more harm than good to regional peace and stability, as it is a strategic attack weapon that harms the legitimate security interests of other countries, threatens their strategic security and increases the danger of military confrontation and arms race.
China strongly urges the US and Japan to lend an ear to the voices of regional countries and put right their wrong conduct, he stated.
Saying that the inclination towards neo-militarism of Japan, a source of trouble, might become the root cause of regional chaos once again, he called on the international community to maintain sharp vigilance and make a joint effort to check it.
