Sohyon Confucian School is situated in the most scenic place of Soktamgugok, a scenic beauty, in Soktam-ri of Pyoksong County, South Hwanghae Province.

It was one of the local private educational institutions in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910).

Sohyon Confucian School means a village school for training good-natured and wise men.

There is a sammun (the main three-entrance gate) and lecture hall along the axis from east to west and a shrine and pavilions for monuments stand face to face in the north and west and morutanchong, a moderate form of colourful painting, was applied to all buildings.

And the Yogum Pavilion stands in front of the main gate and not far from it is seen the Chonggye Hall, the first building of the school.

The Yogum Pavilion and Chonggye Hall showcase the excellent contemporary architecture.

During the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25 1950-July 27 1953), parts of the old Confucian school were destroyed. But it was restored to its original state thanks to the national heritage protection policy of the country.
