Soktamgugok is located in Pyoksong County of South Hwanghae Province.

Soktamgugok means a stone pool and nine valleys and has been widely known as a scenic beauty since olden times.

It is famous for various picturesque scenes, including the clear stream water, rocks and cliffs of different shapes and azaleas, pines and maple trees in valleys, nicely decorating the area in different colours according to seasons.

The sight of the lake is breathtaking.

The beautiful sights of Soktamgugok include those of Kwanam, Hwaam, Chwibyong, Songae, Unbyong, Johyop, Phungam, Kumthan and Munsan.

Kwanam is situated at the starting point of the nine valleys. It is called thus as the large rock at the top of the mountain looks like kat, a traditional horse-hair hat of Korea. Its scenery in the morning is very fantastic.

Hwaam is called thus as it looks like a flower rock. In spring, the rocky cliffs crowned with a pine forest and taking root in the lake are filled with the fragrance of light pink azalea blossoms blooming in the cracks of rocks. Later, royal azaleas produce blossoms to decorate the rock walls, unfolding an enchanting view in late spring.

Chwibyong is surrounded by the round rocks on the shore of the lake like a green screen as old trees stand on them forming a forest. The chirping of birds there is exceptionally lovely, adding to the beautiful scenery.

Songae was named thus in the meaning that luxuriant pines grow on a high cliff. There is a green pine grove on the 200-metre-high rocky cliff and beneath it is a clear and serene pool, offering a picturesque view.

Unbyong is the most beautiful place among the nine valleys. The crystal-clear blue stone pool there reflects the appearance of the mountain like a picture and in the thick forests around it there are Yogum Temple, Chonggye Hall and other old buildings showing off the beauty of ancient architecture, bringing into relief the primeval natural scenery.

Besides, Johyop, Phungam, Kumthan and Munsan also boast their own distinctive beauty.
