DPRK team wins 2026 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup

The final match for the 2026 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup took place between the DPRK and Japanese teams on May 17.

The DPRK players took the initiative and mounted strong attacks on the opponents from the beginning full of confidence in victory.

In the 30th minute of the first half player No. 10 Yu Jong Hyang made an opening goal with a correct shot.

In the second half, they continued to put pressure on the Japanese. Yu Jong Hyang scored the second goal in the 50th minute, followed by the third goal by player No. 15 Kim Won Sim in the 55th minute. Yu succeeded in scoring two more goals in the 81st and 89th minutes in succession.

As a result, the DPRK team beat the Japanese team 5-1 and won the Asian Cup.

Yu Jong Hyang scored four goals in the final.

DPRK players won victories in all the six matches from the group league matches to the final, scoring 36 goals in total.

At the award ceremony, a trophy and gold medals were conferred on the DPRK women footballers who won the 2026 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup, and the best player award and the top scorer award on Yu Jong Hyang, the best goalkeeper award on Kim Son Gyong and the prize of morality on the DPRK team.

The proud success achieved by the DPRK footballers in the women's football event greatly encourages all the people of the country who have turned out in the struggle to lead the period of pioneering the comprehensive development of socialism on to that of a great upsurge and the heyday of sweeping changes in order to carry out the decisions of the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.
