As to the fact that hantaan virus caused deaths in an excursion ship sailing the Atlantic, the World Health Organization announced that it is investigating the virus’ possibility of spreading between persons.

As a variety of viruses carried by rodents, the virus exists mainly in the excrement of the animals. If a man takes in a virus particle floating in the air, he is infected with the virus. Though rare, a man might be infected with the virus if he is bitten or scratched by the animals.

The current case of such infection reportedly shows the possibility that the virus was transmitted by close contacts between persons.

If a man is infected with the virus, he shows such symptoms as weariness, fever, muscular pain and chill.

There is reportedly no special method of treating the infection.

Experts advise on such methods of alleviating the symptoms as oxygen therapy, artificial respiration and antiviral medicine therapy.
