Middle school graduates continue to volunteer for military service
May 12, 2026The enthusiasm for joining the Korean People's Army is now growing among the graduates of senior middle schools.
According to information available, more than 400 classes volunteered for service in the KPA in group across the country and many other graduates joined the ranks of volunteers.
In Pyongyang, more than 20 classes including a class of Panwol Senior Middle School in Taedonggang District volunteered to join the army.
They said that it is their natural duty and obligation of the younger generation to perform proud feats for national defence in the prime of their life, though there are many jobs through which they can fulfil their dreams and desires.
In North Phyongan Province, hundreds of graduates from over 40 classes vowed to serve the army in the frontline areas of national defence.
All graduates of Hadan senior middle schools Nos 1 and 2 in Sinuiju City, who had spent the days of learning in Pyongyang they had never dreamed of after their villages were hit by a flash flood two years ago, pledged themselves to firmly defend the country and native villages with arms, bearing in mind the benevolence of the Workers’ Party of Korea which ensured that the disaster-stricken island where they lived was developed into an ideal farm town in the new era.
Over 1 000 graduates from 50-odd classes in North Phyongan and North Hwanghae provinces respectively volunteered to join the KPA.
Graduates from middle schools for orphans across the country also applied to join the army.

Ri Se Hyon, a graduate of Konguk Senior Middle School in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, enthusiastically volunteered for service in the army though he received an affiliation letter from
Jong Kwang Song, who was a teacher in charge of 3-1 class of Sinhyang Senior Middle School in Sunam District of Chongjin City, always felt unhappy because he thought he had failed to serve the army for national defence which he, as a youth of the country, should have done. So he passionately applied to join the KPA with his students who volunteered for service in the army.
The graduates of senior middle schools across the country, who volunteered for service in the army, are now full of burning enthusiasm to make their youth, the most precious period of life, honourable with arms in hands.
