Middle school graduates visit Saeppyol Street

May 4, 2026

An endless stream of visitors flows into Saeppyol Street, which sprang up in Pyongyang as the epitome of reverence for the martyrs who fell in overseas military operations. They are graduates of senior middle schools in Pyongyang who volunteered for service in the Korean People’s Army.

Those of Rimwon Senior Middle School in Ryongsong District, all of whom volunteered to serve at the frontline army posts, visited the bereaved family of Martyr Jin Song Jun living in Hwasong District.

Looking at the Medal of DPRK Hero awarded to the martyr and his photo neatly wrapped in the flag of the DPRK, the graduates pledged themselves to do their military service well and return home after becoming heroes like the martyr who lives in history forever as the proud son of his parents, his school and the country.

The graduates of Ragwon Senior Middle School in Pothonggang District made their way to Saeppyol Street where the bereaved families of martyrs including DPRK Hero Ryu Tae Guk live.

Singing songs and talking with the bereaved families in their new houses, they expressed their determination to live a life to be remembered by the country.

Looking round Saeppyol Street, the graduates of Changgwang Senior Middle School in Central District voiced their resolve to firmly carry forward the spirit of the martyrs who had fought bravely, treasuring the handfuls of soil of their country they had brought with them. They met the bereaved families of martyrs including the family of DPRK Hero Hyon Ryong Il, heard stories about their growth and spent meaningful time reciting poems and singing songs.

The street was also visited by the graduates of Pipha Senior Middle School in Moranbong District and Segori Senior Middle School in Pothonggang District affiliated to Kim Hyong Jik University of Education, who volunteered to serve the People’s Army.

At the houses of the martyrs they made resolutions before the bereaved families to do their military service like the martyrs who fought valiantly, keeping in mind all the precious things of the beloved country and with a single intention to always lead a proud life before them.

As they look round several places of Saeppyol Street, the graduates of Songsin Senior Middle School in Sadong District pictured in mind the heroes, who laid down their youth and precious lives unsparingly, and hardened their resolve to surely become the next hero of their alma mater to DPRK Hero Ryang Ju Hyok.

On their visits to Saeppyol Street, the senior middle school graduates planted trees at the park by a pond where the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un personally planted trees, and fostered a strong sense of patriotism.

Those of Yonbong Senior Middle School in Songnim City sent a letter to the parents of Martyr Choe Chol Ho, DPRK Hero, expressing their determination to always become honourable soldiers of the country.

Before joining the Korean People’s Army, many other graduates of senor middle schools across the country send letters expressing their resolve to live like heroes to the families of the brave combatants who participated in overseas military operations.
