A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defence on April 17 answered a journalist as regards the fact that the Japanese House of Councillors adopted the financial budget bill for 2026 specifying a defence budget exceeding the highest record in history.

Various signs show that the Japanese right-wing forces are accelerating the process of turning their security policy in an offensive and expansive direction, he said.

Such an act is seriously contrary to the constitution of Japan and the current norms in force in the country as well as regulations of documents with international legal validity and therefore poses a serious threat to the postwar international order and regional peace and stability, he condemned.

Japanese imperialism once inflicted untold disasters on the region and the rest of the world, but the wrongdoings have not yet been settled since the end of the war, he said, adding that Japan is now stepping up its remilitarization with its mask completely put off and that it cannot avoid the strong concern and censure of the world people.

Asserting that China strongly demands Japan stop going against the trend of history and thoroughly separate itself from militarism, he emphasized that otherwise it would lose the confidence of neighbouring countries in Asia and the international community.
