Slovak prime minister demands lifting of sanctions against Russian oil

April 10, 2026

The Slovak prime minister issued a statement on April 4 to urge the European Union to lift sanctions against Russia’s crude oil and gas.

In order to cope with the energy crisis, he said, the EU should lift the sanctions against the import of the Russian oil and gas, restore the Druzba oil pipeline and put an end to the Ukraine war.

He emphasized that the EU, particularly the EU Commission, should immediately resume dialogue with Russia and create a political and legal environment so that individual member states and the whole of EU could replenish their gas and oil reserves and receive a supply of such strategic resources through all possible sources and channels.
