Rural communities forge ahead with agricultural mechanization
April 8, 2026The sustainable growth of agricultural production today, the age of scientific farming, largely hinges on modern machines and equipment together with advanced science and technology.
The mechanization of agriculture was powerfully pushed forward according to the programme of the Workers’ Party of Korea for the rural revolution in the new era.
The respected General Secretary
He set the targets to be attained in each stage by 2030 and noted that the mechanization of the rural economy should begin from farm work which is toilsome and labour-consuming and it should be pressed on by combining large farm machines with medium and small ones and modern farm machines with simple hand-operated farm machines to continue to increase the proportion of farm operations done by machines.
A series of projects were undertaken to boost the farm machine industry in the country.
Amid the nationwide efforts to develop and produce practical and high-performance farm machines that suit the geographical and actual conditions of the country, many farm machine production units were modernized and their capacities expanded and the annual targets according to the farm machine development plan were successfully achieved.
The first- and second-stage renovation and modernization projects of the Kumsong Tractor Factory were completed, laying the foundations for ensuring smooth production and the quality of products. The newly-organized general small farm machine production enterprise is now stepping up on a full scale the production of tillers along with small tractors with high horsepower.
The reconstruction and modernization projects of the Namsi Stockbreeding Machine Factory, the Kangso Sprayer Factory, the Sariwon Tractor Parts Factory, the Hamhung Trailer Farm Machine Factory, the Haeju Farm Machine Factory and other units in the farm machine sector were concluded in succession and the material and technical foundations of the sector strengthened a level higher.
As a result, 11 600 farm machines were produced and supplied to the rural communities throughout the country in 2023, their kinds remarkably increased in 2024 and the proportion of farm work done by machines grew in 2025 over the previous year, thereby contributing greatly to the growth of grain production.
