Rural change essential for regional transformation
April 4, 2026Progress and changes clearly marking out the past and present have been made in the countryside of our country since the struggle to implement the programme for the rural revolution in the new era started on a full scale.
The effort to radically improve the countryside has been stepped up, leading to the construction of a large number of modern rural houses in all cities and counties and changes in all domains including the grain production structure, agricultural mechanization, irrigation system, farming method, stockbreeding and vegetable production.
It is an important principle the Workers’ Party of Korea is adhering to at present to reduce the gap and eliminate imbalance between the towns and the countryside, to accelerate the building of rich and civilized society where all the regions develop simultaneously and, in particular, to give priority to improving the regional and rural living environment.
Agriculture is an important sector in the regional economy, and a large percentage of the population in the country are engaged in agriculture. Therefore, to change the rural communities is of great significance in letting them build up their own forces and potentials strong enough to achieve steady and sustainable development of their regions.
To raise the level of ideological awareness of agricultural workers and their cultural and technical level is an important undertaking for preparing them to be responsible for transforming their villages and areas.
When agricultural workers acquire a high level of ideological consciousness, study and search to acquire knowledge and technical skills and radically change their lifestyle, the rural revolutionary forces will be strengthened and regional development further accelerates.
To rapidly increase agricultural productivity is essential for revitalizing the regional economy so as to improve the material life of local people.
Only when agriculture is developed rapidly can regional-industry factories be fully provided with raw materials and the purchasing power of agricultural workers be increased to give full play to the vitality of the regional development policy for improving the material life of the regional people.
When agricultural production is put on a scientific, IT and intensive basis and the material and technical foundations of the countryside are steadily consolidated to bring about the sustainable development of agricultural production, a new era of development of the socialist countryside can be ushered in and the economic links between regional industry and agriculture be strengthened to revitalize and develop the regional economy.
To radically change the appearance and environment of rural communities is an important political work to usher in an era in which regions undergo changes.
It is an ideal result of our Party’s regional development policy to radically improve the environment for cultural life of regional people and thereby make the whole country uniform in cultural level.
When we change the living conditions and cultural environment in all rural communities across the country and step up the construction of civilized society in that course, we can thoroughly implement the regional development policy whose important goal is to decisively reduce the difference between urban and rural areas in cultural level.
